Challenges, Transformations, and Triumphs

Full of challenge and change, 2020 was like no other year. It began with a celebration of NSBA’s 80-year legacy—80 years of advocacy and commitment to America’s most vital institution, its public school system.

Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Just as public education had to transform over the past year, NSBA also embarked on a transformation. We hired Anna Maria Chávez as our new CEO and executive director and began a strategic learning process to transform into a more innovative and responsive organization that advances our members' growth and success.

At the same time, we advocated for and successfully obtained federal relief funding; promoted access, equity, and innovation in public education; and provided our members with essential resources and other supports.

The State of the Association animated presentation, video, and ASBJ article below represent a snapshot of this work and our ongoing transformation.
