Digital Strategist

The National School Boards Association (NSBA) seeks a highly conscientious and experienced professional to join the Public Advocacy and Communications team. This position will play a key role in the association’s digital engagement efforts by contributing to the strategy and implementation to achieve advocacy, business and membership objectives.

  • Define the scope and recommend the approach for digital engagement to support business and public policy objectives, with direction from the Chief Communications Officer, Director, Marketing and key staff throughout the association.
  • Lead digital "evangelization" initiatives within NSBA and independently identify specific needs and potential solutions.
  • Advise stakeholders on new initiatives and projects, serving as a digital strategy advisor to Public Advocacy and Communications; Membership and Leadership Services; Federal Advocacy and Public Policy; Legal Advocacy; and Finance and Administration.
  • Contribute to strategy development and lead the implementation of activities, including daily workflow, to support advocacy, business, and membership initiatives and programs, undertaking specific tasks and coordinating with staff as needed.
  • Craft compelling content, including writing action alerts, marketing appeals, social media copy, website updates, online petitions and other digitally-based creative materials and takes action to ensure the content is distributed to have maximum impact.
  • Develop and oversee a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) program.
  • Serve as a thought leader in aligning the digital strategy with NSBA’s advocacy, business, and membership goals and objectives.
  • Drive discussions on strategy and tactical implementation on the role of digital within the marketing ecosystem.
  • Codify and publish formal frameworks and methodologies for approaching, managing and implementing digital assignments.
  • Serve as a resource for the creative team (design and video) in the development of insight-driven digital strategies from opportunity identification through to experience definition.
  • Play an active role in new partnership acquisition and new business presentations, as appropriate.
  • Develop measurement analytics and reports, and report on progress on ongoing initiatives and specific projects.
  • Provide methodological support, coaching, professional development and training to staff.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Political Science, Psychology, Computer Engineering/Science or Digital Media Studies ; 3+ years of experience in a digital environment, engaged in website, social, mobile, search, marketing, online advertising and integrated campaigns, ideally in a consulting, business development, and/or strategic development role; demonstrated ability to apply research insights to strategy development; knowledge of website development and content management tools; experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods and platforms; working with major social media platforms and monitoring/reporting tools; knowledge of communications, advocacy, marketing theory and practice; excellent verbal and written communications and prioritization skills; capacity to partner and coordinate with peers throughout the association; experience overseeing a wide portfolio of projects and demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing deadlines; direct experience and successful track record of delivering creative, strategically thoughtful projects that deliver measurable impact; ability to proactively spark debate and serve as a resource.

Preferred: Advanced understanding and engagement with major social media platforms, and main web analytical platforms; experience with Sitecore and Drupal; 3-5 years of experience in SEO, SEM and reputation management.
