The National Black Council of School Board Members (NBC) serves in an advisory capacity to the NSBA in matters affecting NSBA’s policy and program issues and serves to foster an organizational culture based on sound education research, assessment, and evaluation principles.

The purpose of NBC is to promote quality education for all students with emphasis on the problems and successes of Black students. A listing of the NBC Board of Directors is available hereand a map of NSBA's regions is available here.

The National Black Council Nominating Committee met on January 22, 2020 and slated candidates who applied through the regular application process. In accordance with NBC bylaws, members of the National Black Council who are in good standing as of March 1, 2020 may run from the floor for positions that will be open in April 2020:

  • Chair Elect (2-year term 2020-2022)
  • Secretary (2-year term 2020-2022)
  • Central Region Director (2-year term 2020-2022)
  • Northeast Region Director (2-year term 2020-2022)
  • Western Region Director (2-year term 2020-2022)

Membership Offerings

Regular membership (voting rights) includes any elected or appointed local school board member or state board of education member within the United States and its off-shore territories. Dues for regular members are $75 annually.
Associate membership (non-voting rights) is open to administrators, educators, and citizens-at-large. Dues for associate members are $50 annually.
