Program Lead, Equity & Member Services

National School Boards Association (NSBA) seeks an exceptional individual to work with the Managing Director of Equity & Member Services to support NSBA's mission of equity and excellence in public education.  

This position develops and manages appropriate substantive projects, including content, around equity and excellence in education that provide value to key NSBA audiences.  Plans, directs and implements equity-based professional programming. Serves as program support for CUBE and NSBA Councils, supporting active engagement of their membership, as well as their growth.  Support includes playing active role in creating and supporting events related to these groups.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Serves as staff liaison to leadership NSBA Councils and CUBE. Duties include development and management of operating budgets, working with leadership and Equity staff leadership to determine goals, workplans, and meeting agendas, assisting in the development of agenda for leadership retreats, and providing staff support to leadership processes within these bodies.

• Serves as communications liaison for CUBE and NSBA councils; this includes development of content for leadership reports, assisting with the development of marketing and membership materials, development of messaging for the communities, emails to members, etc.

• Serves, along with Chief and Managing Director, as staff liaison to external partner organization staff to identify program and service activities of mutual interest and concern.

• Creates/ ensures creation of equity- based content to include, among other deliverables, concept papers, white papers, data collection, research, etc.

• Creates annual calendar of equity-based topics and deliverables for approval by Chief and Managing Director of Equity and Member Services Department.

• Assists with the management of CUBE and Council events, including the development of content, and engagement with speakers. Manages all event programming content that produces final program materials. Provides program management for CUBE and the Councils in support of the Chief and Managing Director.

• Identifies and implements substantive projects that build knowledge and understanding for NSBA core audience on a range of equity related topics. This includes the development of deliverable tools, reports and other products.

• Creates a culture of trust and manage the value proposition for NSBA Council programs. Promote opportunities for states to provide input and feedback to strengthen our current and future programs and services.

• Assists Chief and Managing Director for Equity Programs in the preparation and delivery of training and other technical assistance to NSBA core audiences.

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; At least 5 to 7 years of relevant experience (in professional and/or advanced educational environments). Deep understanding of federal and state and/or local policies and practices that affect access to critical educational resources for students from low-income families and students of color, and a vision for improving these policies and practices. Experience and expertise in policy and practice impacting other critical education resources (e.g. access to excellent teaching, academic rigor, etc.). Strong relationships with leaders in the resource equity field, or the proven ability to develop those relationships quickly. Demonstrated success communicating effectively with general audiences — in a variety of written and oral formats and contexts — about complex policy and practice issues. Excellent analytic skills and experience either using data directly to support policy development or managing analytic work of others to support policy development. .

 

Preferred:

Possession of an advanced degree (e.g., doctorate, master’s, JD, or equivalent) in public policy, education, psychology, sociology, law, or related field.
