Tech speaker: Move from status quo

We live in an era in which the learning that students do outside of school looks very different from the learning they do inside of school. And that’s a problem that school boards must confront, according to Will Richardson, speaker at the Education Technology Leadership luncheon Sunday at NSBA’s annual conference in San Antonio.

“The status quo is not going to serve our kids moving forward,” said Richardson, co-founder of an innovation website called modernlearners.com.

NSBA Announces 2018 Education Technology Innovation Showcase

Alexandria, Va.  (March 22, 2018) – The National School Boards Association (NSBA) announced today the six companies selected for its annual Technology Innovation Showcase.

“NSBA has worked at the intersection of education technology policy and practice for more than three decades to bring entrepreneurs, school board members and district leaders together to discuss innovative solutions that can support public education,” said Thomas J. Gentzel, NSBA Executive Director & CEO. 

The 2018 Technology Innovation Showcase includes the following companies:

NSBA has been saluting TLN districts since 1992 and many remain at the forefront of innovation.

Use technology to spark creativity

One of the slides technology guru Steve Dembo presented during the Education Technology Luncheon on Sunday at NSBA’s Annual Conference in Denver showed school board candidacy lawn signs.

His observation: These are probably the last direct communication that the community ever gets from the school board members.

The next slide featured Lin-Manuel Miranda from the Broadway hit “Hamilton.” Out of his mouth was a word balloon: “Who tells your story?”

NSBA Launches Education Technology Innovation Showcase

Alexandria, Va.  (Jan. 3, 2013) – The National School Boards Association (NSBA), with more than 25 years experience through its Technology Leadership Network (TLN), is pleased to announce the six companies selected for its first Technology Innovation Showcase.

“The Technology Innovation Showcase was created to highlight emerging companies that represent the diversity of new solutions in education,” said Ann Flynn, NSBA’s Director of Education Technology.

There once was a parrot, an armadillo, 75 board members, a zoo educator, and a class of third-graders in Ohio. This collection of random facts represents one of my most memorable moments associated with the off-site programming I host during the NSBA annual conference.
