Alexandria, Va. (March 28, 2017) – The National School Boards Association (NSBA) today announced the second phase of Stand Up 4 Public Schools, a national public education campaign that reveals the true teaching and learning in public schools and it provides a means for people to demonstrate support for their community-based schools.

NSBA CEO Gentzel encourages boards to Stand Up

Providing tens of millions of children with a world-class education every day is a daunting responsibility, but our schools are making “incredible progress” in meeting the challenge thanks to committed and innovative problem-solving school leaders across the country. That was the message that NSBA Executive Director and CEO Thomas J. Gentzel shared with attendees at Saturday’s General Session on the opening day of NSBA’s 77th Annual Conference in Denver.

Former NASA Astronaut and Idaho public school teacher Barbara Morgan made an appearance on KTVB News, Idaho’s premier news network, to discuss her support for the National School Boards Association’s national campaign, “Stand Up 4 Public Schools.” Morgan was joined by Anne Ritter, NSBA Board member (Pacific Region Director; West Ada School District) and together they spoke about the importance of our nation’s public schools in our society, and how overall public schools are doing better

Williams calls on board members to stand up, step up, speak up for public schools

Motoring the floor between rows of attendees at Monday afternoon, radio and TV personality Montel Williams provided an energizing close to NSBA’s 75th annual conference in Nashville.

Sporting a bright red “Stand Up 4 Public Schools” badge, Williams delivered – “shot gunned,” as he put it – his assertion that school board members must spread the word about issues such as how U.S. public schools graduated a record 82 percent of high school seniors last year, including more than 140,000 minorities.
