NSBA Bill

NSBA Welcomes the Introduction of the Local School Board Governance and Flexibility Act in the U.S. Senate

Alexandria, Va. (June 10, 2014) - The National School Boards Association (NSBA) praises the introduction today of the Local School Board Governance and Flexibility Act (S. 2451) in the U.S. Senate by Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.). The legislation would protect local school district governance from unnecessary and counterproductive federal intrusion from the U.S. Department of Education (ED).

Issue Brief: Local School Board Governance and Flexibility

The responsibility for education resides with the states which, in turn, have delegated substantial authority to local educational agencies, which are governed by local school boards. The role of the local school board is to develop policies, set priorities, and provide accountability to direct the operation of its schools.

Local School Board Governance and Flexibility

Our NSBA bill would enhance local school board authority while ensuring that the U.S. Department of Education does not overstep its authority.
