At its 48th Annual Conference held on October 1-3, in Phoenix, Arizona, the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA’s) Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) awarded Akron Public Schools Board Member, Reverend Dr. Curtis T. Walker Sr., with the 2015 Benjamin Elijah Mays Lifetime Achievement Award.

2015 Urban School Board Excellence Award Winners are Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Fort Wayne Community Schools, and Lincoln Public Schools

Alexandria, Va. (October 2, 2015) – The National School Boards Association (NSBA) is pleased to announce the district winners of the Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) 2015 Award for Urban School Board Excellence: Ohio’s Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Indiana’s Fort Wayne Community Schools, and Nebraska’s Lincoln Public Schools.

Each year CUBE recognizes exemplary school boards for their excellence in school board governance, ability to build civic capacity, success in closing the achievement gap and working for equity in education, and demonstrated success of academic excellence. At CUBE’s annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona, October 1-3, the winning districts had the opportunity to share their success stories and best practices, highlighting the crucial connection between effective school board governance and student achievement.
