It was Saturday, not Sunday, when Judge Glenda Hatchett spoke at the Council of Urban Boards of Education luncheon at NSBA’s Annual Conference in Denver. And no one said, “Amen.” But ask anybody who was there: Church was in session.

The video is disturbing. A sheriff’s deputy grabs a teenage girl in a classroom and overturns her desk, sending the student crashing to the floor. A moment later, the deputy roughly pulls her free of the desk and throws her several feet across the room, where she is handcuffed in front of her startled classmates.

White House Summit recognizes school districts for joining national effort to create New Generation High Schools

The Rochester City School District of New York and Hillsborough County School District of Florida participated today in the Obama Administration’s first-ever White House Summit on Next Generation High Schools. The event highlighted students, educators, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs who have proven their commitment to preparing high school students to succeed in the global workforce. The school districts highlighted during the summit were two of the first to incorporate key elements of the New Generation High Schools STEM initiative.
