NSBA’s Council of Urban Boards of Education Announces 2014-2015 Leadership


Alexandria, Va. (April 10, 2014) – The National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) has elected new leaders and members to its Steering Committee. 

CUBE Annual Conference Call for Proposals

Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) hosts several conferences and an issues seminar throughout the year that focus on topics of interest to urban educators and school leaders.

2014 Benjamin Elijah Mays Lifetime Achievement Award Application

The award is given to an individual who—for the span of his/her lifetime—has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to representing the educational needs of urban schoolchildren through his/her service as a local school board member. 

2014 CUBE Annual Award Application

Award winners share their ideas and promote effective techniques at CUBE conferences and through CUBE publications. These districts serve as a resource for other CUBE districts, sharing best practices to help all urban districts improve.

CUBE Annual Award for Urban Excellence

The winner of CUBE’s 2013 Annual Award, recognizing effective school board governance across the nation, was North Carolina’s Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Steering Committee

The CUBE Steering Committee guides the council efforts to foster effective urban school board governance. It is comprised of 16 elected board members.

Benjamin Elijah Mays Lifetime Achievement Award

The recipient of CUBE’s 2013 Benjamin Elijah Mays Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring individual commitment to serving urban schools, is Jerrelle Francois.
