Alexandria, Va. (April 18, 2016) - The National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) elected leaders and new members to its Steering Committee during its annual business meeting at NSBA’s Annual Conference, April 9-11, in Boston, Massachusetts.

CUBE: December 10, 2015: The Role of School Resource Officers: To Keep Schools Safe But Not Criminalize Student Misbehavior

While school-based police can be a positive influence when working in our urban schools, it is clear their role must be different than that of officers patrolling city streets. Once assigned to a school, the officer—often identified as a school resource officer (SRO)--should be a combination of teacher, counselor, and law enforcement officer. The job of SROs is to keep schools safe and engage with students, not to involve themselves in school disciplinary matters.  

White House Summit Recognizes School Districts for Joining National Effort to Create New Generation High Schools

(Alexandria, Va., November 10, 2015) - The Rochester City School District of New York and Hillsborough County School District of Florida participated today in the Obama Administration’s first-ever White House Summit on Next Generation High Schools. The event highlighted students, educators, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs who have proven their commitment to preparing high school students to succeed in the global workforce. The school districts highlighted during the summit were two of the first to incorporate key elements of the New Generation High Schools STEM initiative. They are members of the National School Boards Association’s Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE).

2016 CUBE Steering Committee Nominating Procedures and Roles and Responsibilities

The National School Boards Association's (NSBA) Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) Steering Committee consists of 16 urban school board members, including an immediate past chair from CUBE school districts elected by CUBE districts.  The members serve staggered three-year terms.  Membership on the Steering Committee is limited to two full consecutive terms, and incumbent members whose pre - or first terms that expire in 2016 must reapply to be considered for reelection.
