NSBA Letter to Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies

NSBA Executive Director Thomas J. Gentzel sent this letter to members of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, prior to the mark-up of the Subcommittee's FY2016 appropriations bill. In the letter, "NSBA strongly urges the Subcommittee to provide the highest possible funding allocations for Title I grants for disadvantaged students and grants under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Specifically, IDEA has been woefully underfunded for years and as a result, school districts have been forced to raise taxes and dip into general education budgets to make up the shortfalls created by rising special education expenditures in local communities."
