to the
New Administration and New Congress

Alexandria, Va. (Nov. 9, 2016) - We, as a nation, must invest in public education to ensure every child has an opportunity to realize their potential. The National School Boards Association (NSBA) and the more than 90,000 school board members hope the new administration and new Congress will make it a priority.

Our public schools provide the educated, innovative, and creative workforce of tomorrow. It is also our legal and moral responsibility to provide a high-quality and equitable education to all students regardless of their circumstances, background, means, or place of birth. Education a key part of the solution to every challenge facing the country.

The incoming administration and new Congress serves as a reset, a golden opportunity to ensure state and local governance is paramount in implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). But, the remaining work to implement ESSA is just one of several key issues that requires action.

NSBA is ready to work with the Trump administration in the first 100 days to get the ESSA regulatory effort back on the right track and to do its part to secure reauthorization the Child Nutrition Act and the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and to modernize the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
