NSBA’s Council of Urban Boards of Education Announces 2019-2020 Leadership

Alexandria, Va. (April 4, 2019) – The National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) elected leaders and new members to its Steering Committee during its annual business meeting on March 30th at NSBA’s Annual Conference, March 30-April 1, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Jacinto Ramos of Fort Worth Independent School District, Texas, was elected Chair of CUBE’s Steering Committee; Steve Gallon, EdD, of Miami-Dade County, Florida, Vice Chair; and Joyce Morley of Dekalb County, Georgia, Secretary. Micah Ali of Compton Unified School District, California, now serves as the Committee’s Immediate Past Chair.

“I am honored to have received the support and trust of so many amazing education leaders from across the country,” said Ramos. “I am committed to working with my peers from across our great nation to engage our communities and ensure opportunities for our students. We must be committed to addressing the issues that our urban school districts face and build a coalition across all levels of government that is committed to ensuring a quality education for all our children.”

Ramos is a community leader first elected to serve on the Fort Worth Independent School District’s School Board of Trustees in 2013. The son of Mexican immigrants, his activism focuses on multiculturalism and helping youth develop a strong cultural identity. In 2015, he became the school board’s youngest president. Outside of his school board duties, Ramos works as a community services restitutions supervisor at Tarrant County Juvenile Services and sits on several Fort Worth community boards.
