NSBA Supports USDA’s Final Ruling on Hiring Standards for School Nutrition Programs

In a major victory long sought by NSBA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released a final rule that “adds four flexibilities to the hiring standards for new school nutrition program directors in small local educational agencies (LEAs) and new State directors of school nutrition programs under the Professional Standards regulations for the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.”  Since 2014, NSBA has advocated for increased flexibility to the hiring standards, established by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act,  to ensure that small school districts have sufficient capacity to efficiently and effectively administer school meals programs.
