Managing Director, Equity Programs

NSBA is seeking a Managing Director for Equity & Member Services. 

The individual assists in the oversight and overall strategy for the Equity & Member Services Department and leads the department in the absence of the Chief Equity & Member Services Officer. 

Daily tasks include management of equity program staff and oversight of members services and supports for State Associations, the Council of Urban Boards of Education, the American Indian, Alaska Native Council of School Board Members, the National Black Council School Board Members, and the National Hispanic Council of School Board Members. 

The managing director will focus on the following areas: membership value proposition, educational programming and content, external relationships and the use of multidisciplinary approaches to achieving overall organizational goals/objectives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Directs and provides oversight for the organization’s focus on school board governance training and programming to include equity-based initiatives designed to improve student achievement;

Must possess strong interpersonal, analytical, research and writing skills as well as oral communications skills;

Promotes training opportunities through state conferences, work alike groups, and other collaborations and liaises with other educational organizations and stakeholders;

Provides budgetary oversight and management for state association and equity programming services;

Serves as staff liaison on educational equity issues and maintains collegial work relationships across the organization;

Develops and oversees the development of presentation materials, including research, slides, scripts, talking points and proposal collateral for prospect meetings;

Utilize metrics and reporting to track progress towards goals, and to keep the leadership team apprised of successes and challenges;

Track record of getting results, handling a heavy workload and developing strong working relationships among a diverse group of people.

Serves as a spokesperson and expert on school governance issues for member and external audiences, including speaking at state association events and conferences, working through the communications officer, responding to inquiries from the media, and representing NSBA with external agencies and groups.     

Works in collaboration with the communications team to develop and align strategic messaging related to the Equity and Member services;

Works with Federal, Legal and Public Advocacy staff to ensure the engagement of membership and equity-based initiatives in NSBA grassroots advocacy and public policy initiatives;

Extensive Supervisory experience including mentoring, training staff, and provide timely feedback; periodically supervise department interns and/or volunteer staff.

Represents NSBA on a local, regional, and national basis.
