October is our back-to-school issue, and we are focused on innovation. One of the goals of this magazine is to provide information that helps school leaders do their jobs. We do this by offering examples of innovative and practical strategies you can use in your districts.

Our cover story, “The Great Reset,” looks at how school districts are rethinking and reimagining education in the wake of the pandemic. In “Place, Pace, and Voice,” you will learn how a Wyoming high school, a 2022 Magna Award winner, made time for teachers to provide specialized, small group, and individual support within the school day.

School board members are innovators; they also nurture innovation in their districts. One of the best ways to encourage creativity in your district is to find opportunities for your own professional development. The NSBA 2023 Annual Conference and Exposition is the one national event that brings together education leaders to learn about best governance practices, gain insight into child development, and learn about new programs and technology that can help enrich student learning.

NSBA 2023 is one of the few—if not the only—places where school board members from around the country can meet and learn from one other. Attending education sessions, luncheons, and keynote presentations is a vital way to find out about new trends, research, and practical solutions. But there is another powerful benefit to gathering with your colleagues: the networking and informal discussions that occur in the coffee line or around the lunch table. If you’ve been to one of our conferences, you know that’s where the magic happens.

The conference will be held April 1-3 in Orlando. Early registration for National Connection and CUBE districts opens Oct. 5. General registration opens Oct. 12. For more information, visit nsba.org/Events/NSBA-2023-Annual-Conference-and-Exposition.

Until next issue!
