White House Summit Recognizes School Districts for Joining National Effort to Create New Generation High Schools

(Alexandria, Va., November 10, 2015) - The Rochester City School District of New York and Hillsborough County School District of Florida participated today in the Obama Administration’s first-ever White House Summit on Next Generation High Schools. The event highlighted students, educators, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs who have proven their commitment to preparing high school students to succeed in the global workforce. The school districts highlighted during the summit were two of the first to incorporate key elements of the New Generation High Schools STEM initiative. They are members of the National School Boards Association’s Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE).

NSBA joins CoSN and AASA in digital webinar as part of “Connected Educators Month”

The National School Boards Association (NSBA), Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), and the School Superintendents Association (AASA) partnered to host a free webinar, Building the Human Capacity for a Digital Leap. The webinar focused on equipping school leaders with the knowledge, resources, and networks needed to build the capacity of school systems to move from old education models to enabling individualized learning with technology.

NSBA expresses strong support for Digital Learning Equity Act of 2015

NSBA co-signed a letter with other leading national education organizations to express strong support for the Digital Learning Equity Act of 2015. This important piece of legislation will help close the increasingly widening equity and learning gaps that exist between the students who have access to the Internet at home and those who do not. 

COSA Director to discuss student data privacy at Harvard

This Wednesday, The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School will be hosting a working meeting on “Emerging & Future Privacy Issues in K-12 Connected Learning.” Attending and participating in the discussion will be Sonja Trainor, Director of the Council of School Attorneys (COSA), National School Boards Association (NSBA). Brown v. Board of Education Digital Learning Day

Alexandria, Va.  (May 11, 2015) - The National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) is pleased to announce that on May 18th, 3:15 – 4:30 p.m. EDT, as part of CUBE’s annual Digital Learning Day, three schools from across the country will participate in a webinar discussion commemorating the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education.

Participating schools include Baltimore City Public Schools’ Digital Harbor High School; Little Rock, Arkansas’s Central High School; and Rochester, New York’s Northeast College Preparatory Academy.

Top Digital School Districts 2014-15 Using Cutting-Edge Technology

March 24, 2015 - School districts’ use of innovative technologies such as 1:1 laptop initiatives, STEM curriculum and flipped classroom instruction earned top spots in the Center for Digital Education’s and National School Boards Association’s 10th anniversary Digital School Districts Survey.

The survey recognizes exemplary school boards’ and districts’ use of technology to govern their district, communicate with students, parents and community and improve the learning environment and district operations.
