Video surveillance and the law

Is Big Brother watching you? In a session that invoked George Orwell’s famous treatise on the government and privacy, panelists discusses the legal ramifications of video surveillance in schools.

The Friday session was part of the Council of School Attorneys (COSA) School Law Seminar, held in conjunction with NSBA’s Annual Conference in Boston.

The panel included Kathleen Styles, chief privacy officer with the U.S. Department of Education. Also on the panel were two lawyers with the Union County Public Schools in Monroe, North Carolina: Michele Morris and Deborah Smith.

Delegate Assembly approves Advocacy Agenda

NSBA’s Delegate Assembly approved the association’s advocacy agenda at its business session Friday, April 8. The meeting was held right before the start of NSBA’s Annual Conference, which opens Saturday, April 9, in Boston. The Delegate Assembly is the policy-making body of NSBA.

NSBA Announces 2016 Education Technology Innovation Showcase

Alexandria, Va.  (March 16, 2016) – The National School Boards Association (NSBA) is happy to announce the six companies selected for its annual Technology Innovation Showcase.

“The Technology Innovation Showcase was created to introduce school leaders to new approaches, enabled by technology, that address real issues in K-12 education,” said Thomas J. Gentzel, NSBA’s Executive Director. “With its unique focus on the intersection of education policy and technology practice, NSBA has a long history of serving as a bridge between the entrepreneurial community and school leaders charged with making critical decisions.”

Transportation

Free shuttle buses are operated by NSBA between the Boston Convention & Exposition Center and NSBA Conference hotels.  Schedules of operation are available at the information desk in the North Lobby of the Boston Convention & Exposition Center.  The shuttle system operates on a limited schedule Friday and on a regular schedule Saturday through Monday.

NSBA Shuttle busses will pick up and drop off in East side Level 1 of the Boston Convention and Exposition Center.
