The Clark County School District encompasses all of Clark County, Nevada, including the metropolitan Las Vegas area and outlying communities, and serves nearly 310,000 students. It is the fifth-largest school district in the United States, spread over 7,910 square miles, and includes 357 schools with diverse programs that serve urban, suburban, and rural communities.

As last year’s first place Digital School District winner, the Clark County School District has been recognized as a leader in using technology to provide innovative and engaging 21 st century learning experiences for students, to support a robust magnet schools program, and to provide enterprise systems in support of the business of learning.

In the spirit of the Wild West, the Clark County School District has accepted the challenges as a leader in innovative technology. These are just a few of the programs offered in the Clark County School District:

  • Onsite teacher coaches for technology integration
  • District wide parent communication system and robust school and teacher websites
  • Partnership with the Las Vegas PBS station which provides streaming video and cable to classrooms
  • Extensive magnet school programs, K-12
  • Virtual High School, 9-12
  • Online professional development registration, delivery, and tracking
  • Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) piloted in select high schools
  • Largest deployment of FUSE algebra app for iPads
  • Extensive use of social networking systems, including blogs, video, and wikis
  • Access, through a single portal, for all curricular resources (Curriculum Engine)
  • School broadcasting programs
  • Districtwide WAN, high-speed Internet access, and wireless access
  • Cyberbullying prevention initiatives
  • Unified help desk for technical support
  • District-wide replace and repurpose program for equipment
  • Content and learning management systems

During classroom visits, participants will interact with students and teachers as they engage in learning through technology.
