School District Self-Evaluation

The questionnaire on the following pages is provided as a "facilities technology check list" for self-evaluation. It is not a scientifically developed research instrument. The intent of the instrument is to increase general awareness of technology developing in K-12 education and encourage thinking about the potential facility implications.

This questionnaire may be used as:

Using the questionnaire can give a school district perspective on present status, future direction, and facility needs.

Has a staff position been established for instruction technology?

Has a strategic district-wide plan been developed for computer-aided instruction?

Has a comprehensive networking schematic plan been prepared for all connective technology?

Has a strategic plan been developed for the placement of computers in facilities?

Has a strategic technology master plan been prepared for:

Is there a plan for home/school data link?

Is there a computerized district-wide student information system and record-keeping system tied to each school?

Is there district-wide connectivity plan for integrated computer communications?

Is there a district-wide instructional television plan?

Is there a district-wide facility plan for new construction and remodeling?

Has the master plan been professionally cost estimated?

Is there a district-wide inventory of educational facilities, including:

Do facility staff members have practical teaching experience?

Has facility personnel received training in curriculum and instructional technology?

Does your district use valid space standards in building planning?

Do space standards provide specific size allocations for each instructional program, support space, and ancillary space?

Are educational specifications prepared for each new construction or remodeling project?

Do educational specifications provide detailed analysis of existing building conditions and systems?

Do your educational specifications provide budget and scope-of-work information?

Are staff and administration involved in the facility planning process?

Are educational specifications prepared by a properly trained planning professional?

Is the community involved in the facility planning process?

Are local industries and their technological experts involved in the facility planning process?

Is there a district-wide master plan for facility technology?

Are specific space standards and design standards established for each instructional technology?

Is there state funding of district capital construction?

Is there a state department of educational facilities?

Is value engineering part of your standard plan review?

Is your facility planning person a member of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International or another facility planning group?
