Program Manager, Attendee Experience

The National School Boards Association seeks a Program Manager, Attendee Experience to ensures event and content alignment with NSBA’s vision of excellence in governance and advocacy for public education. To include planning, development, and evaluation of all educational programming and logistics for NSBA’s National Annual Conference and other key NSBA conferences and events. Ensures the program quality, promotion, and on-site delivery of assigned conferences, meetings, and events are in alignment with NSBA meeting and event objectives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares educational plan of each NSBA conference, meeting, and event to ensure strong educational content and focusing on enhancing the effectiveness of participant professional development and experiences.
  • Collaborates with Managing Director, Member Services in designing conference, meeting, and event products, print and online communications, and identifying and implementing service delivery strategies.
  • Works collaboratively with association departments in developing educational strategies for delivering conference, meeting and event content using the latest adult learning principals and the new ways to design meeting content.
  • Designs and implements development of call for proposal solicitation, conducts proposal review of Annual Conference proposals with internal and external reviewers, and designs program of Annual Conference workshop sessions based on continuous improvement process and the strategic vision of the association.
  • Manages the continuous improvement of educational programming for NSBA’s annual conference, analyzing results from the prior year by identifying patterns, trends in space, schedule, and attendance, using data to develop program focus, and identifying needed adjustments for the upcoming year. Leads the development and innovation of new conference programming offerings for each new conference.
  • Directs and manages logistics for educational program sessions and speakers throughout the year, including travel, hotel arrangements, handout development and delivery, and designing session guidelines.
  • Develops and manages small group speakers educational conference program budget, including speaker honorarium, travel, per diem, and vendor/service fees; negotiates terms and manages all contracts with contractors and invited speakers.
  • Responsible for repurposing topics generated by association wide team members that strengthen the vision for public education for all into content for the conference, including programming designed for the National Connection and Equity programming participants; designs special sessions including pre-conference programming and establishes expense budgets associated with pre-conference programming, sponsorships, and study halls.
  • Responsible for content management related contracted services for the NSBA Annual Conference, NSBA Advocacy Institute, and Summer Leadership Seminar, including, but not limited to, systems updates and upgrades, software deliverable for call for proposals, proposal review process, session and speaker management, and conference logistics, and online conference planner.
  • Collaborates internally and provides strategic vision and leadership on Annual Conference programming projects with other departments, including, but not limited to, Annual Conference website content, housing brochure, conference program book information, custom online scheduler and the conference mobile app. Ensures the accuracy and usability of educational program content in all methods of communication.
  • Designs the programming space specifications for the convention center. Updates and maintains schedules of all space at convention center keeping in mind space and cost containment issues, audio-visual needs and makes room assignments for all activities and programming at the annual conference.
  • Ensures speakers are in compliance with the association’s policies and develops the pre-conference sessions, second tier master class programming, new school board member program track, and spotlight strands by identifying, negotiating, inviting, and overseeing high-profile speakers and collaborates internally with association on general session speakers.
  • Develops, manages and tracks conference programming logistics.
  • Responsible for development and distribution of all speaker information, including but not limited to proposal forms, registration information, speaker guidelines, copyright and audio-visual guidelines, and onsite information. Answers inquiries and maintains positive, ongoing relationships with speakers.
  • Provides direction and supervision to NSBA staff and contractual staff onsite at the NSBA conference.  
  • Serves as external resource expert for our state association’s members and internal staff in relation to speakers/experts for presentations, keynotes, and webinars, as well as participation in the NSBA Trainers group, presenting for work-a-like groups and industry groups on best practices in associations and the meetings industry.
  • Contributes to the development of and delivers NSBA educational content/presentations aligned to principles of leadership excellence and best practices in governance/public education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; including, but not limited to, logistics team member for the Advocacy Institute and NSBA’s Summer Leadership Seminar event, and other NSBA conferences, meetings, and events.

Salary - $72,000 to $85,000

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Experience designing and delivering adult educational programming; excellent project management, conference program and event planning, and meeting management; and excellent oral and written communication skills.  Experience with content management and databases.
