The following is correspondence from NSBA to the U.S. Department of Education regarding its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Innovative Assessment Demonstration Authority under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) [Docket ID:  ED—2016—OESE—0047]. The ESSA innovative assessment program facilitates flexibility about the type of student assessments utilized by school districts.  In this correspondence, NSBA forwarded comments addressing local school board governance and stakeholder engagement; training and support for administrators, teachers and related personnel; and, evaluation and improvement.
