Federal Relations Network Conference
Attend the only national meeting that offers school board members the inside track on public education advocacy.
The opportunity to attend the FRN conference is a coveted benefit of the FRN program. School boards must have a strong FRN presence on Capitol Hill this year. FRN members will need to continue to strengthen federal support for sustained investments in Title I and IDEA, impact the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, stress the importance of local school board governance, and discuss the new national standards for school meals and other provisions of the child nutrition reauthorization, in addition to other pressing legislative issues. The new national education issue sessions were introduced last year, and they will be expanded for the 2012 FRN Conference, rounding out your knowledge as a federal liaison to your members of Congress.
As an FRN member, you may orchestrate meetings with your members of Congress locally. Coordinating a solid state presence of school board members at the FRN conference enhances such efforts and further demonstrates your dedication and commitment to infl uencing federal legislation. In addition, by participating in the FRN conference, federal legislators, their staff and the Administration witness fi rsthand that local school boards are relevant and their local knowledge is critical to setting the education legislative agenda for the year.
The FRN offers the opportunity to receive in-depth knowledge about federal legislation and policies that impact your school district. Then, you incorporate your local anecdotes and examples when you lobby your members of Congress on the third and fi nal day of the conference during NSBA’s Day on the Hill. This enables you to connect with members of Congress and their staff immediately – making this a working conference that produces real results.
