National Networks Meeting and Luncheon
Saturday
Meeting: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM (Orange County Convention Center)
Luncheon: 1:00 PM (Peabody Orlando Hotel)

This meeting brings up-to-the-minute analysis of current issues from experts on NSBA's advocacy staff. Come away with lobbying tips for effective advocacy on key education issues. The luncheon features a member of Congress as the keynote speaker.

Howard T. Rainer American Indian/Alaska Native Caucus Luncheon
Saturday, 1:00 PM

Howard T. Rainer is a Taos Pueblo-Creek Indian who is currently working as the Program Administrator for the Native American Educational Outreach Programs at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He is also a poet and photographer and author of several books.

Lorraine Monroe Black Caucus Luncheon
Sunday, 1:00 PM

In 1991, Lorraine Monroe founded the Frederick Douglass Academy, a public school in Harlem, in the belief that caring instructors, a disciplined, but creative environment, and a refusal to accept mediocrity could transform the lives of inner city kids. Her experiment was a huge success. Today the Academy is one of the finest schools of its kind in the country, sending graduates to leading colleges and universities. Monroe calls her unique leadership method "The Monroe Doctrine." Dr. Monroe is now the Executive Director and Founder of the School Leadership Academy at the Center for Educational Innovation in New York City, where she is assisting other school principals and educators in creating high achieving schools and transforming children's lives.

American School Board Journal Luncheon for School Leaders (The Magna Awards Luncheon)
Monday, 12:45 PM

Linda Perlstein, author of Tested: One American School Struggles to Make the Grade, one of American School Board Journal's Notable Books of 2007, will speak at American School Board Journal's annual Luncheon for School Leaders. The luncheon also honors the school districts receiving the 2008 Magna Awards, cosponsored by Sodexho School Services. Learn more at www.asbj.com/magna.

Carlos Munoz, Jr. Hispanic Caucus Luncheon
Monday, 12:45 PM

Dr. Carlos Muñoz, Jr. was born in the "segundo barrio" in El Paso, Texas, and raised in the barrios of East Los Angeles, California. He is the son of poor working class Mexican immigrants. He earned his PhD in Government from the Claremont Graduate School. Dr. Muñoz was the founding chair of the first Chicano Studies department in the nation in 1968 at the California State University at Los Angeles and the founding chair of the National Association of Chicana & Chicano Studies (NACCS). He is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Ethnic Studies, University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Muñoz has gained international prominence as political scientist, historian, journalist, and public intellectual.

Daniel Pink Lunch and Conversation with Daniel Pink
Monday, 1:00 PM (Orange County Convention Center)

This special follow-up to the Focus on Education Lecture by Daniel Pink offers more intimate and provocative discussion around how education will need to change to meet the needs of the future workplace.
