Henry honored with Shannon Award
03/09 -- NSBA has awarded the 2009 Thomas A. Shannon Award for Excellence in School Boards Association Leadership to Jeannie M. “Sis” Henry, executive director of the Georgia School Boards Association.
The award was presented at NSBA’s Leadership Conference Jan. 31.
“Sis Henry is a stalwart champion of local school board governance,” said NSBA Executive Director Anne L. Bryant. “She is highly respected among her peers throughout the country, and NSBA is delighted to honor her with this award.”
Henry has worked tirelessly over the past year to make sure Georgia leaders understand the role of and value of school boards in a participatory democracy.
Through her leadership, GSBA has dramatically improved its grassroots advocacy activities, leading to the defeat of state legislation that could have damaged public education.
Henry’s support of technology and innovative thinking has led to the popular eBOARD products and eBOARDsolutions Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of GSBA that helps school boards throughout the country achieve excellence in board governance, meetings management, and strategic planning.
