Winona Hendricks
President

Winona A. Hendricks was elected to serve on the Virgin Islands Board of Education in November of 2008. She is currently the chairperson of the 16th Board of Education. Mrs. Hendricks holds a Master of Arts degree from New York University, with credits in Administration and Supervision from the University of the Virgin Islands.

She is a former deputy superintendent of schools, principal, and teacher. She currently serves her community as a part time instructor at the University of the Virgin Islands, member of the Board of Trustees for the University of the Virgin Islands, member of the board for television station- WTJX, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and member of the Rigidims Festival Troupe.

Mrs. Hendricks has three children and two grandchildren. Being a board member has heightened her awareness of the many factors that community stakeholders must meet head-on to change the quality and course of teaching and learning.

Carol O'Bryan Henneman
Executive Director

Carol O'Bryan Henneman is a native Virgin Islander who has dedicated her life to education.  She holds a B.A. in English/Education from the University of the Virgin Islands and a M.A. in English/Education from the University of Connecticut.  A former Assistant Commissioner of Education, Henneman, who taught English at the Charlotte Amalie High School for eighteen years, has also served as a Master Teacher for the Department of Education. 

A published writer, poet, and journalist, and media specialist, Henneman was an Assistant Professor of English at the University of the Virgin Islands. Since then she has worked as an executive assistant and public information specialist for the Virgin Islands Port Authority.  Presently, she is the executive director of the Virgin Islands Board of Education. She has also been affiliated for many years with the Family Resource Center – a non-profit organization that helps victims of violent crimes and domestic violence.

Henneman has her own consulting business, Tri-Cord Consultants.  Her areas of expertise also include conflict resolution, domestic violence training, motivational speaking, and public relations.

The daughter of James A. O’Bryan, Sr. (now deceased) and Elsa D. O’Bryan, Henneman has been married to Myron “Buddy” Henneman for thirty-four years and has a daughter, Alani, 28 – who is the public relations manager for the Department of Tourism.  Her son Kareem, 32, a marine, died in 2004. She also has several grandchildren – Che’Velle, J’Mel, Tijah, Jolisa, D’Nasia, and Trinity.  Henneman lives her life by the philosophy that “the purpose of life is to glorify God through service to others.”
