Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE)

WHO WE ARE

Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) represents more than 100 urban school districts in 35 states, Ontario and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our member districts educate more than 7.5 million students, in over 12,000 schools, with a collective budget of approximately 99 billion dollars.

CUBE assists school board members in finding solutions to local policy challenges. This is done through the creation of forums for school board members to share innovative practices, including issues seminars, conferences, legislative advocacy, research projects, professional networking opportunities, specialized publications, and local governance and policy assistance.

The CUBE program is the urban component of the National Affiliate program at NSBA. School boards must be members of their state school boards association in good standing to participate in CUBE.

ADDRESSING THE OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION CRISIS

NSBA, in collaboration with the
National Opportunity to Learn Campaign, has created a policy guide for school board members that will help them develop positive alternatives to out-of-school suspension. This policy guide provides information on the adverse impact that out of school suspension has on academic achievement, especially as it relates to students of color and those with disabilities. In addition, the guide provides examples of strategies that school boards have used to promote student growth through positive school discipline reform models.
