Loudoun County Public Schools is located 25 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. Loudoun County, Virginia, combines the best of rural and suburban living for a steadily increasing population. Now one of the fastest growing jurisdictions in the nation, Loudoun opens 3-5 new schools each year. It currently serves over 50,000 students in 68 schools. Loudoun County is home to AOL and Verizon as well a number of regional and global corporations and nine major universities. This is reflected in the diversity of the students who come from 70 countries and speak more than 80 languages.

The vision — A Climate for Success — is to provide an environment that prepares students for life and learning in the 21st century. In doing this, Loudoun County Public School’s instructional focus is to put hardware and software in teachers’ and students’ hands to support authentic problem-based learning. To support this goal, Loudoun provides a technology resource teacher for every school. Partnerships with local museums and organizations such as the Smithsonian Institution and Howard Hughes Medical Institute extend and enhance the learning environment.

In addition, technology solutions such as the implementation of a data warehouse provide administrators and teachers with data to help make good instructional decisions. Other enterprise solutions include a web content management system, an online registration staff development system, digital video distribution system, and a number of instructional programs targeted to specific learning goals.
