InVision & InPractice • March 15-18, 2005

Palo Alto Unified School District (Palo Alto, CA) invited participants to experience firsthand how this K-12 district combines all the necessary components to provide first-rate, multi-platform technology services to support teaching and learning and student-centered environment.

Theme areas included:

  • Technology & Learning with site visits to newly upgraded elementary, middle, and high schools
  • Wireless Technologies for seamless integration into the classroom
  • Technology Professional Development as a key to changing teaching practices
  • Electronic Communication Methods including digital lockers, e-homework, InClass curricular support, parent-teacher communication, community connections
  • Youth Broadcast Collaborative (YBC-TV) as an example of new directions in video, Internet, and community partnerships
  • IT Support Model as a way to service every computer and to provide an expert for every staff member
  • Network/Systems Technical Support as the foundation for reliability and dependability
As part of a Bay Area visit, participants also were invited to spend time getting to know Silicon Valley. Special events, dinners, and/or visits included Apple Computers, Dell, Blackboard, Google and the Midpeninsula Community Media Center.
