James B. (Jim) Crow is the executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), a position he has held since August 1995.  Crow has been with TASB since July 1981, serving in a variety of positions primarily in the governmental relations area.

Prior to his affiliation with TASB, Crow was with Austin ISD from 1975 until 1981, first as a high school journalism teacher and then as director of communications.  During the 1981 Texas Legislature, he served on the staff of the Texas Senate Committee on Education.

In September 1997, Crow was appointed by Texas Governor George W. Bush to serve as a commissioner of the Education Commission of the States (ECS), a national organization devoted to assisting states develop sound education policy.  During his tenure as TASB executive director, the organization was named one of the "25 Best Medium Companies to Work for in America" by HR Magazine, a publication of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Crow earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is married to Shellie Hoffman Crow, an attorney practicing school law with an Austin firm.  He has a 23-year-old son, Jeff, and a three-year-old daughter, Sarah.
