Oregon School Boards Association

Kevin McCann
Executive Director
Oregon School Boards Association

OSBA is led by Executive Director Kevin McCann, whose breadth of knowledge of Oregon K-12 schools, experience as an advocate and lobbyist, and emphasis on collaboration among education partners serves association members and executes the mission and goals adopted by the OSBA board of directors.

McCann, who has been executive director since 2004, has overseen OSBA governance changes that include a new regional approach to member representation throughout the state, a re-focus of association services to meet the changing needs of OSBA members, and an emphasis on education equity in Oregon schools and helping boards of education access and apply data to assess and enhance student achievement.

Prior to being selected to lead OSBA as executive director, he served two years as OSBA’s community and agency liaison. In his current position, he continues the impetus of that position: building collaborative relationships with OSBA members and the associations, state agencies and other organizations interested in or affecting public education in Oregon.

He is also an active advocate for public education on a national level and is serving a two-year term on the Liaison Committee of the National School Boards Association, the executive-director leadership committee of that organization.

McCann has a degree in economics for Oregon State University, for which – a true Beaver -- he later served for many years as OSU Foundation director of corporate and foundation relations as well as associate director of alumni relations, OSU Alumni Association.

He has served on boards and as an executive of civic organizations: Corvallis Convention and Visitors Association, the Riverfront Commission, and the Boys and Girls Club.  He and his wife, Julie, live in Salem and have two grown sons.
