National Caucus of American Indian/Alaska Native School Board Members


The National Caucus of American Indian/Alaska Native School Board Members (NCAIAN) strives to:
  • Promote quality education for all students with emphasis on the problems and successes of the American Indian/Alaska Native student;
  • Improve collaboration among all American Indian/Alaska Native school board members, their communities, fellow board members, political leaders, state school board associations, tribal education committees, and the National School Boards Association;
  • To assist American Indian/Alaska Native school board members to be more effective by supporting the local chapter of the Caucus;
  • Promote county, school district, LEA/REA, state and national legislation to improve the educational opportunities and programs for American Indian/Alaska Native students in public, tribal and contract/grant/charter schools, or the federal government (i.e., Bureau of Indian Affairs); and
  • Promote representation and participation of American Indian/Alaska Native school board members within the National School Boards Association and its governance.
The annual membership and business meetings of the Caucus are held during the NSBA Annual Conference and Exposition every spring.
