Someone at School has AIDS: A Complete Guide to Education Policies Concerning HIV Infection (2nd Edition)
Abstract:Policies that provide clear guidance are critical to a school's ability to deal effectively with HIV infection. In addition to guiding educators and administrators, they should provide reassurance to families, students and staff members; legal protection for schools; and support for those living with HIV/AIDS. However, the need to balance a number of complex factors--the concerns of family, staff, and community members; the needs of people with HIV infection; legal requirements; public health recommendations; and compassion--make policy development and implementation a challenge. Education decision-makers need accurate answers to practical questions, and the intent of this guide is to provide the necessary information for addressing HIV matters and developing and updating HIV policies in schools. Many topics are explored, including school athletics, effective HIV prevention education, and HIV-related services.
