What Makes a Good AIDS Curriculum?
Abstract:[Archived] The most important task at the elementary school level is to alleviate children's excessive fears about the AIDS epidemic and contracting the virus. Young children should be told that AIDS is difficult to get and that you cannot become infected simply by being near someone who has the virus. Basic information about AIDS transmission and prevention should be provided at grades four or five, where children develop a greater interest and understanding of human sexuality. This article lists some of the vital components of a comprehensive AIDS education program.
