The Adoption and Implementation of School Condom Availability Programs in the United States
Abstract:This project summary provides conclusions drawn from interviews on condom availability programs in the United States. Condom availability programs are in place in 434 schools, either through health clinics, or as part of a comprehensive health education program. Smaller schools and alternative schools make a greater number of condoms available per student than larger schools or academic schools, especially when condoms are available in baskets/bowls or via health centers in the schools. Studies indicate that condom availability does not increase the number of sexually active students or the frequency of sexual acts.
