Students with AIDS
Abstract:In the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District, the determination whether an HIV-infected student may attend school is made on a case-by-case basis. A team, which consists of a physician with AIDS expertise, the student's physician and parents, and appropriate school personnel, determines if the student may remain in school. The decision is based on the student's behavior, neurological development, physical condition, and the expected type of interaction. A similar team also reviews the cases of HIV-infected employees to determine if they can continue to work. The team consists of a physician with AIDS expertise, the employee's physician, the employee or his representative, and appropriate school personnel. The decision is based on the employee's physical condition, expected type of interaction with others, and the impact on both the employee and others.
