NSBA's Council of Urban Boards of Education To Hold Seminar on Creating Safe Urban Schools
Alexandria, Va. – May 23, 2006 - Leaders from urban school districts throughout the United States will attend the Council of Urban Boards of Education’s (CUBE) "Connecting with Communities to Create Safe Urban Schools" seminar at the Renaissance Chicago Hotel in Chicago, June 23-25. Participants will explore the link between the social and learning environments as it relates to safe schools, and learn how other urban districts are tackling this top issue.
School board members, superintendents, school counselors, and school resource officers will work in teams to learn about best practices in urban school safety. The conference includes a keynote address from renowned public health leader and author Dr. Deborah Prothrow-Stith; general sessions dealing with prevention and intervention strategies, gang prevention, and zero tolerance tactics; and workshops and briefings focused around school safety.
