Abstract:The Institute of Medicine’s 2007 Nutrition Standards for Foods in Schools provides the first science-based recommendations for nutritional standards that apply to school foods not restricted by the federal National School Lunch and Breakfast programs. This fact sheet provides answers to frequently asked questions and examples of foods and beverages that meet the guidelines, as well as outlines the ways the report can be used by school boards and school administrators to reinforce healthy eating behavior in their districts.
