Learn more about the Council of School Boards Association Communicators
The Council of School Boards Association Communicators (COSBAC) is an affiliate of the National School Boards Association. COSBAC serves as a forum for communication staff in state school boards association in North America (United States and Canada) to learn and exchange experiences and to gain insights on the public relations and communications needs of local school boards and state school boards associations. As stated in the COSBAC bylaws, our purpose is to:
- Strengthen the ability of state school boards associations and the National School Boards Association in their efforts to inform the American public about public education and the role of schools, in order to ensure greater confidence in and support for public schools.
- Promote the cooperative and joint development of state and national school boards association communications programs,
- Promote the professional development of school boards association communications staff.
Established in 1973, and continuing today, the COSBAC membership is extended to any person in the United States and Canada who has managerial or professional responsibilities in the field of educational communications, public relations or public information for a school boards association at the state, provincial, or national level. COSBAC’s annual conference is held in July and attendance varies from 40-50 representatives from the states and NSBA. Also during the conference, the COSBAC Annual Business Meeting is held and officers are elected for a one-year term.
The annual conference is made possible through the many volunteer presenters and a conference planning committee consisting of COSBAC elected officers and NSBA Communications Office staff.
