NSBA Conference will be held in Chicago
10/11/2005 -- NSBA’s 66th Annual Conference will be held in Chicago, April 8-11, 2006, rather than New Orleans, as originally scheduled.
Conference registration will open Nov. 1, and attendees and exhibitors can begin making hotel reservations Nov. 29.
“We regret having to move our conference from such a great city as New Orleans, but we believe it is in the best interests of our attendees and exhibitors,” says NSBA Executive Director Anne L. Bryant. “We look forward to New Orleans remaining in our conference rotation and NSBA returning there in 2010.”
Chicago, a first-time annual conference site for NSBA, features premiere hotels and competitive rates, as well as world-class dining, jazz clubs, and bustling shopping districts. The Chicago convention center, Lakeside Center at McCormick Place, has even more meeting space than the New Orleans convention center, which will allow conference sessions to be held in more spacious surroundings.
“This will be a terrific opportunity for our attendees and exhibitors to experience a new top-tier city that offers the kind of convention center facilities and the number of quality hotels we require to host a conference of our size,” says NSBA President Joan Schmidt.
On average, NSBA draws approximately 13,000 people to its annual conference.
The general session speakers are retired Army Gen. Colin L. Powell USA.(Ret), Jane Goodall, David McCullough, and Richard Simmons.
NSBA has donated more than $10,000 in cash and other supplies to help New Orleans and other communities in the Gulf Coast region affected by the recent hurricanes and is working closely with the Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama state school boards associations to assess the critical needs of local school districts.
NSBA has been deeply involved at the federal level in urging Congress and the Education Secretary to approve adequate relief money for local school districts.
In addition, the members of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, as part of their commitment for Chicago to serve as the host city for the NSBA Annual Conference, have generously agreed to make a donation to a relief fund earmarked for members of the New Orleans hospitality community that have suffered losses as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
