COSA honors Nancy Fredman Krent
NSBA’s Council of School Attorneys (COSA) presented its 2008 Award for Distinguished Service Friday to Nancy Fredman Krent, a partner in the Hodges, Loizzi, Eisenhammer, Rodick & Kohn law firm in Chicago.
The award recognizes an attorney’s outstanding contributions in support of COSA’s mission: to improve the practice of school law and provide leadership in legal advocacy for public schools.
“Nancy always brings an enormous talent and energy to her work,” states a letter from her firm’s senior partners. She heads the firm’s litigation practice and has successfully handled a large number of special education cases.
Krent chaired COSA in 2003 and has been a frequent speaker at COSA and state school attorneys conferences. She contributed to three COSA monographs—on selecting a school attorney, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and investigating sexual harassment claims. She wrote an amicus brief for NSBA in John M. v. Evanston Township High School District 202, a special education case in the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
She also has focused on ethical issues confronting school attorneys and has provided guidance in this area to attorneys in COSA and her firm.
