Davidson wins 4th straight 5K
Frank Davidson has done it again. For the fourth consecutive year, the superintendent from Casa Grande, Ariz., crossed the finish line first at the annual National School Boards Foundation 5K Walk/Run.
Davidson, 50, won first place among all participants at the eighth annual event, held at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake in Orlando. His time was 18 minutes, 32 seconds.
Winners among the men were Travis Johnson of Aurora, Utah (under 19 category); John Moyher of Rocky Hill, Conn. (20 to 29); Jamie Goldberg of Belen, N.M. (30 to 39); Mike Wells of Corning, Iowa (40 to 49); Fred Botterbusch of York, Pa. (50 to 59); and Michael Yoder of Kendallville, Ind. (60 and above).
At age 75, Earl Boykin of Crosby, Texas, finished the race in 25 minutes, 44 seconds, which was good enough for second place in the over-60 category.
Alexa Gemma of South Daytona, Fla., was the overall female champion with a time of 21 minutes, 1 second. Winners among the women were Victoria Tapia of Santa Fe, N.M. (under 19 category); Bethanie Hammond of Mount Vernon, Ky. (20 to 29); Liz Mahoney of Thermopolis, Wyo. (30 to 39); Terri Janison of Las Vegas, Nev. (40 to 49); Georgann Richardson of Colorado Springs, Colo. (50 to 59); and Julie Dahlgren of Ketchum, Idaho (60 and above).
All proceeds from this year’s race will support the Center for Public Education, a joint initiative of NSBA and the National School Boards Foundation. The center provides board members, administrators, and the community with current, reliable, and easy-to-access information and research about public education.
