Why does childhood obesity matter for schools?

Healthy students learn better.  Children and youth who eat nutritious foods and are active stay healthier, perform better in school and learn behaviors that will keep them healthier throughout their lifetimes.

Poor nutrition and lack of physical activity are linked to factors affecting academic achievement, including:

1)    Absenteeism
2)    Classroom behavior
3)    Ability to concentrate
4)    Self-esteem
5)    Cognitive performance and test scores
