Register Now for EPA’s National Asthma Forum in Washington DC, June 9 - 10, 2011
March 16, 2011 - Asthma is one of the leading causes of absenteeism and is the most common childhood disease, affecting nearly 3 children in each classroom of 30. In addition, if asthma is poorly managed, it can affect a child’s academic performance and behavior. Therefore, developing policies and practices that help children manage their asthma in school will help keep children with asthma in school and ready to learn every day.
But as budgets become tighter, it can become difficult to implement asthma programs. Also, a child’s asthma needs to be managed at all times, not just in school. Collaborating with other members in the community to develop strategies for improving asthma programs is an effective way to improve asthma management programs in your school system.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Communities in Action National Asthma Forum brings together school employees, policy makers, community leaders, public officials, health professionals, and others interested in working together to relieve the burden of asthma in their communities. The two day symposium provides attendees with the opportunity to learn best practices for providing effective care across the community, collaborate with members in their communities, and develop action plans to improve environmental factors and evaluate programs. The Forum will take place June 9 - 10, 2011 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC.
