New Resource Repository on Emergency Management for Schools
March 9, 2010 – Established in 2004 by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS), the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center provides technical assistance for schools, school districts, and institutions of higher education (IHEs) on emergency management issues and questions.
Recently, the REMS TA Center created an online Resource Repository to host examples of current tools, templates, resources, and forms related to K-12 and higher education emergency management.
The Resource Repository serves as a virtual library of relevant resources such as assessment checklists, parent letters, or tabletop exercises. The materials included in the Repository serve as examples to be modified and adapted, as needed, by local communities.
To further augment this tool, the REMS TA Center and OSDFS are currently soliciting additional resources for possible inclusion. Schools and IHEs are invited to submit emergency management resources including publications, studies, tools and templates.
Furthermore, the REMS website has additional resources to help schools with emergency management and planning, including publications and online courses such as “The Four Phases of School Emergency Management” and “Preventing and Mitigating School Emergencies.”
