Celebrate National Food Safety Education Month!

August 25, 2010 – This September, join the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation in promoting National Food Safety Education Month (NFSEM).  Many parents and community members take for granted that the food their children are eating at school is safe.  However, hours of preparation and training on the part of the food service staff is required to make sure this is so, and a foodborne illness incident can be devastating to the school community. NFSEM provides an excellent opportunity for schools to demonstrate exactly what they are doing to make sure students are safe at school, as well as offer tips to parents to keep their children eating safely at home.

This year’s theme, “High-Risk Customers: Serve Your Fare with Extra Care,” emphasizes the unique needs of young children whose immune systems are not yet fully developed, while addressing the special considerations necessary for children with food allergies. Find NFSEM resources and promotional materials here.
