Scholarships Available to Attend the EPA’s Indoor Air Quality Symposium
November 4, 2009 - The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) is offering $1,200 in scholarships for school district teams to attend the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) tenth Annual Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Symposium. The Symposium will be held from 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 13 through 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC.
The Symposium will bring together school board officials, school administrators, school nurses, teachers, facility managers, school and health association members, parents, and others to discuss indoor air quality (IAQ) within the nation’s schools. The IAQ program is a nationwide initiative to help school officials assess, resolve, and prevent indoor air quality problems and reduce exposure to asthma triggers in school facilities. At the Symposium, innovative sessions will be held on various topics associated with effectively implementing IAQ programs, building and maintaining high performing schools, asthma management in schools, and communication strategies, among other topics. In addition, the EPA will present awards to schools with exemplary IAQ programs.
The AASA scholarship totals $1,200 per recipient and will cover lodging, the Symposium registration fee and a travel stipend. Considerations for the scholarship include: 1) selected participants are expected to develop a comprehensive action plan to implement the Tools for Schools program or an equivalent IAQ management program; 2) only teams of 2-4 people will be considered for award and must be active in the implementation of the IAQ Tools for Schools Program; and 3) the superintendent must be a member of AASA and must sign off on the application. Applications from teams that include the superintendent as a Symposium participant will receive preference.
