NSBA Webinar on H1N1 Preparedness in Schools

September 10, 2009 - The H1N1 flu did not take a summer vacation and is already showing up in schools around the country.  So what should schools be doing now that kids have returned to school along with H1N1?

Join experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and US Department of Education in a webinar sponsored by NSBA’s National Affiliate Program and receive guidance on how to prepare for what could be a challenging school year.

Title: "When the doors are open what else are you inviting?  H1N1: the Uninvited Guest"
Date:  Tuesday, September 15, 2009
Time:  3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT

This webinar is designed to provide responses to many questions and concerns related to H1N1/flu pandemic planning within schools, for instance: Do your schools have a plan on how to deal with an outbreak?  Have your schools developed a working relationship with local health agencies?  If there is an outbreak, will the cleaning and disinfecting routines in your schools need to change?  One of the policies that districts need to examine in the wake of an H1N1 outbreak is excused absences.  How are excused absences defined and what are the implications for state laws regarding attendance?   How would you feel if the local health agency proposed providing H1N1 vaccination to kids in your schools?  In addition, the school community also has many voices and schools must be prepared to deal with the questions and concerns that they raise.
