CDC Funds State and Local Government Agencies for School Health
April 9, 2008 - Want to partner with your state or local government to improve student health and the success of your schools? Then check out the newly updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) funded partners’ webpages. On March 1st, 2008, the CDC began a new funding cycle for state, territorial, and local agencies and tribal governments, which the CDC refers to as “801 partners.”
The updated webpages reveal the new funded partners and show who is funded for each of the following areas: asthma management, coordinated school health programs (CSHP), HIV, professional development, and the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).
The webpages provide brief descriptions of what CDC’s funded partners are doing to help school districts and schools implement effective policies, programs, and practices related to each of those categories. For instance, asthma management funded partners are partnering with local health agencies to ensure complementary asthma management activities and are developing and disseminating policies related to preventing and reducing asthma episodes and absences. Each individual partner has a webpage that includes examples of their planned activities, contact information, a link to their website, as well as some health facts and figures.
Additionally, the updated webpage includes a link to the 801 funding announcement as well as a link to past funded partner activities.
